“On Sunday, February 2nd, 2025 at 1pm, Trinity Baptist Church gathered at 502 S. Macoupin St. in Gillespie, and First Baptist Church gathered at 820 Broadway St. in Gillespie, to vote in agreement to merge into Unity Baptist Church of Gillespie. To tenured members of both churches, this was a reconciliation of a church split that happened decades ago.
To newer members in these churches, this was a unifying act of cooperation with the understanding that we can do more together for the Kingdom of God when we come together.
Even more so, to everyone present, this was a new work that the Lord has done for the furtherance of the gospel and the glory of God.
On February 5th, in the duration of the 6-7pm, 80+ members of previous churches spent time praying together at each property as a time of dedication and gratitude to the Lord and ratified their Charter Membership by signature on the Charter document for the beginning of Unity Baptist Church.
Following this dedication, we had our first business meeting and accomplished what we needed to accomplish to conduct our very first Sunday Morning Worship service on Sunday, February 9th at 10:30am and Sunday Afternoon service following at 12:30pm at the 502 S. Macoupin St. campus.
Since then, the Lord has been blessing our obedience to His call to Unite! Multiple salvations, baptisms and new members have resulted since the beginning of the merger. To God be the Glory!
We invite you to be a part of what the Lord is doing! Pray that the Lord would fill us with love and peace, with all humility, gentleness, patience, and accepting one another in love, being diligent to keep the unity of the Spirit with the peace that binds us (Ephesians 4:2-3).”
